What vegetables are -
Classification of vegetables:
Using the many different definitions in the literature, I have developed the following working definition of a vegetable to help me understand what I am working with:
"a vegetable is any plant part consumed for food including its roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruits, and seeds but also includes mature fruits eaten as part of a meal, such as tomatoes.
I have used this approach to divide vegetables into six categories:
1 - Flowers, 2 - Leafy, 3 - Pods, 4 - Roots, 5 - Stems, 6- Flowers.

1.Fruits (Those which when mature are eaten as part of a meal):

2. Leafy vegetables:
Lettuce
Spinach
Cabbage
3. Pods (encapsulate seeds)
Beans

4. Roots
Carrots
Beetroot
Radish
5. Stems
Broccoli
